Optica Announces Westlake University Vice President Min Qiu Appointed as Director-at-Large

    2 November 2021 – The Board of Directors of Optica, formerly OSA, the leading organization for the advancement of optics and photonics worldwide, has appointed Min Qiu, chair professor of photonics and vice president at Westlake University, as a director-at-large for the period 2022-2024. The election results were announced during the Optica Annual Business Meeting.


    Min Qiu received a PhD in Physics from Zhejiang University in 1999. In 2001 he received his second PhD degree in Electromagnetics and became an assistant professor at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden. He became a full professor at KTH in 2009 before moving to Zhejiang University in 2010, and later acted as Director of the State Key Laboratory of Modern Optical Instrumentation. Min Qiu moved to Westlake University in April 2018 to act as a chair professor of photonics and vice president.


    Optica (formerly OSA) is dedicated to promoting the generation, application, archiving and dissemination of knowledge in optics and photonics worldwide. Founded in 1916, it is the leading organization for scientists, engineers, business professionals, students and others interested in the science of light.
