Double Honors for Qiu Min's Team at Westlake University: Consecutive Accolades in Optical Technology
Breakthrough Silicon Carbide Metalens Technology Recognized with Two National Awards
In May 2025, the groundbreaking achievement titled "4H-SiC Metalens: Mitigating Thermal Drift Effect in High-power Laser Irradiation" by Professor Min Qiu’s team at Westlake University was selected for two prestigious authoritative lists:
China's Top 10 Optical Industry Technologies (Optics Category) of 2024
China's Top 10 Advances in Metamaterials (Technological Innovation Category)
This innovation introduces a silicon carbide-based metalens. Leveraging a mass fabrication process for large-area, high-aspect-ratio nanostructure and referencing the optical specifications of commercial objective lenses, the team successfully designed and produced a large numerical aperture metalens. This metalens combines exceptional thermal management capabilities with miniaturization advantages, enabling stable suppression of thermal drift under high-power laser irradiation. It provides a novel material platform for micro-nano optical devices.
The primary contributing institutions for this achievement include: Westlake University, Moldnano (Hangzhou) Technology Co., Ltd., Westlake University Institute of Optoelectronics, and Jihua Laboratory.
